I arrived on Sunday around 2 pm, and was so jet-lagged I remember only a little of that day. Yesterday we had an opening ceremony for our Korean East Asia Pacific Summer Institutes (EAPSI) program, and a few hours of Korean classes. Hopefully I can pick up some more of their language as I go ---so far, I can say only a couple words like "thank you" (kam-sa-ham-ni-da) and "excuse me" (shill-e-ham-ni-da).
Last night, we walked to a market, which seemed an odd combination between an outdoor market and department stores. The creek that we walked along was beautiful and very clean, with tall grass and clear water lining the manicured stone pathways.
This morning, we're on a train to Geongju, which is the location of an ancient capital city of Asia. There should be lots of interesting historical points and some excellent scenery.
